John is 60 years old and originally from Northwestern Ontario. He developed his love for community service at a young age. In his hometown of Schreiber, he served on many council committees, including the Parks and Recreation Committee. He also chaired the Economic Development Committee, the OPP Community Policing Committee, and a major community festival.
John moved to Ottawa over 20 years ago and became involved with the Ottawa ACORN chapter. Shortly after moving, he unfortunately developed a mobility issue and required hip replacements. While waiting for surgery, he realized that people with disabilities needed greater representation. Consequently, he ran three times for a smaller political party in Ottawa South at the provincial level and for the Green Party of Canada in 2015. He also ran in three municipal elections and currently advocates for better transit with the Ottawa Transit Riders Group. One of his greatest accomplishments in that role was successfully campaigning for an online booking system to better serve people with disabilities.
John strongly believes democracy works best with evidence-based values and policies. That is why he has joined the Canadian Future Party and looks forward to debating the issues ahead.
