Juni Yeung is an author, translator and interpreter, and East Asian Studies scholar who has resided in Richmond Hill for over 30 years. She has two Masters in History from the University of Toronto and the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has taught and published in music and fashion in youth culture, studying how real and digital social shifts butterfly into policy and geopolitical consequences for entire countries and regions. Juni pioneered in 2018 using East Asian ethnic dress as an approach to teaching Truth and Reconciliation to the community, to reflect and take action on overcoming colonialism and oppression, bridging understanding, relevance and compassion between First Nations and those of immigrant backgrounds.
Like many other Canadians of the millennial generation, Juni understands personally the frustration of unaffordable housing and living costs, the precarity of gainful employment. She is distressed about the disjoint between our generation having enjoyed the best education access, free thinking and expression in human history, and society’s inability to provide meaningful fair remuneration. Juni believes in fostering social values as productive value, through civic and technological progress. Seeing Juni’s hometown of Hong Kong descend into a police state in the turmoil of 2019 overnight, compels her to take action in Canada with profound urgency.
Why CFP?
Juni saw the burning popular demand for an evidence-based, decisive acting party as soon as she heard its formation announced on TV. She believes that to build a diverse, secure Canada, it needs to be done without undoing the values and institutions that make this place safe and welcoming for all.
